Postdoc at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (Nova Scotia)
My broad interest lies in marine ecology and carbon/carbonate chemistry. I am interested in understanding why species are found where they are found and what are the limits to their tolerances. I have a focus on foundation species which are known to create habitats for other organisms.
I am now working as a postdoc researcher for Fisheries and Oceans Canada on a blue carbon project looking at the contributions of kelp and seagrasss to the blue carbon budget under the supervision of Kira Krumhansl, Melisa Wong, and Kumiko Azetsu-Scott. I completed my PhD at Simon Fraser University on the effects of stressors on kelp species distribution and performance in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence and globally at Simon Fraser University under the supervision of Isabelle Côté. This work was part of a great national collaborative network, CHONe II. Before this project, I completed my Master's degree at University of British Columbia with Christopher Harley by doing research on the effects of ocean acidification on the commercial shellfish, specifically oysters. This work was part of a collaborative between the aquaculture industries on Vancouver Island with the government, Fisheries and Oceans Canada. |
Mesocosms, diving with great teams, looking at kelp spores, walking sticks... Did I forget to mention wombat catching and releasing?
